Last week we did the identity mapping activity. I really learned about how much social media
was a part of my life, more then 50% of my day is consumed with social
media. In the report The Distributed
self Richard Gilbert and Andrew Forney discuss the way 3D technology will
change the way people think about themselves and view others. At the beginning a brief history is giving
and talks about the human identity and how it is divided into 3 stages, the
Pre-modern Stage, the Modern stage, and the post modern stage. These stages show that throughout time
technology has really shaped who people are.
This article had a lot of good information and I think there
are several ways it can be interpreted.
People now have the ability to be whoever they want to be, the article
talks about being able to be multiple people at once by cloning yourself, being
one person in the 3D world and another in the real world. It will be interesting to see what the future
holds for us when it comes to connecting with one another. I personally don’t engage in many virtual
worlds today except for facebook and snapchat, but who knows, but even those
have allowed me to connect with people I would otherwise not be able to connect
to. It is so easy to get in contact with
people these days with social networking; you can create a whole friendship out
of it.
